Low Carb diets
Low Carb diets have become as popular as apple pie (although apple pie wouldn't be allowed!). Everywhere you go the message is "low carb, decrease your carbs, or no carbs". Unfortunately this message oversimplifies many of the healthy eating habits that nutrition experts have been teaching. The truth is, there are no quick fixes or easy answers when it comes to healthy eating, and one size never fits all.

Excess Weight - Is It Going To Kill You?
For many years, the experts, including our government have been telling Americans that obesity is a leading cause of preventable deaths. For example, as recently as January, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) ranked obesity as the second leading cause of preventable death, and estimated that about 365,000 Americans died as the result of obesity every year.

Tighter Tummy And Thinner Thighs
As a Master swimmer I am made painfully aware, each time I compete, of the importance of a strong core, and by that I mean stomach strength. I come away from each competition vowing to do more leg work, lots of legs-only with the kickboard, and for fitness there is really nothing to beat it.One of the major benefits is that it tones the thigh and abdominal muscles terrifically and it improves stamina tremendously. I'm sure we all remember seeing the coverage of fighters like Muhammad Ali in their pre?fight training, and the first thing they do each day is hit the road to work on those legs, because that is what strengthens...(related: Weight Loss)

Holidaze
Holidaze
It's the travel time, meaning hours spent sedentary. It prepares me for the visiting, when I know there'll be no activity. I try to see it as winding down to catch up with where our lives have gone in the past 6 months. A semiannual sharing and reflection with family. An enchanted time when reality is lived through a rose tinted holidaze.Rules of day to day no longer apply as you surrender to the hearts and minds of those closest. Conversation, food and wine are intoxicating. You can't leave the table the conversation is too good. The holiday food keeps coming. I fall back into the silken warmth of family stories and recollections of past years.I generally eat until I am sated but now? its quest for space

I've always liked watermelon for a number of reasons:
-- It's loaded with nutrients (vitamins A and C, lycopene)
-- It's low in calories and it's mostly water.
And now, I can add another reason to my list:
-- The fruit's Viagra-like effects on the body (Step aside, oysters.)
According to new research from Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, an ingredient in watermelon can lead to a spike in the body's levels of nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow -- similar to the effects of the famous blue pill. Citrulline, the ingredient, is found mostly in the watermelon's rind and converts into the amino acid arginine, benefitting the circulatory system.
But, before you buy all the watermelons at your local grocery store, consider this: You'd need to eat about six cups of the fruit before you see -- or feel -- any effects. With watermelon being mainly made up of water, you'll probably spend a lot more time in the bathroom than in the bedroom.
That's no reason to give up on watermelon, though: It's still a diet-friendly treat for those hot summer days ahead of us. Plus, research shows that citrulline might prove helpful for people suffering from Type 2 diabetes. The ingredient can also be found in other fruits such as cantaloupes and cucumbers, but at much lower levels.
